In 1990 the Home for Street Kids opened in central Pattaya, offering a safe place for street kids, children who were living on the streets of the city, sleeping in shop doorways.

They had run away from home, from poverty, abuse and neglect and they have found a place where they are safe, free from the risk of harm. No longer were they forced into criminal activities, and they no longer sold their bodies for money to buy food.

Children have arrived from all over the Kingdom, from the far north to the deep south and from the border in the east with Cambodia and Laos to the provinces in the west and along the Myanmar border.

To accommodate all the children, the Home moved to a large piece of land outside the city. In 2006 it changed its name, becoming the Father Ray Children’s Home. Children were encouraged to go to school, and many completed their education and went on to study at vocational colleges and university campuses throughout the Kingdom.

In 2008, we opened the Father Ray Children’s Village, a few kilometers away from the Home, providing a home for young children, too young to live at the Children’s Home. The young children live in ten small houses, taken care of by a house mother.

On December 31st 2019 the Children’s Home closed its doors and the children moved into new homes at the Children’s Village, all paid for by generous donors.

An old African proverb states that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’.   The lucky children who have found a home at the Father Ray Children’s Village will grow up knowing what it is like to be part of a loving family and a happy community, and they will have a home for as long as they need one.
